An individual who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two children who were between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a young boy.
The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.
The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said items including infant oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson called the police once more.
She said the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
